I left platform “X” almost a year ago and moved to the decentralized Bluesky. What Musk has turned “X” into after taking it over is nothing but a cesspool full of racism, homophobia, and hatred of all kinds. No wonder that under his leadership, “X” has become a loudspeaker for every imaginable far-right extremist. The entire content is literally contaminated. If you speak out against it, you get a “shadow ban” without any warning, and your criticism becomes invisible. If you support it, you’re rewarded with wide publicity.
There’s been talk for a long time about this biased algorithmic setup. Journalists from Sky News have now presented the results of an experiment in which they created several accounts on the platform, posing as right-wing, left-wing, and neutral voters.
RESULTS
After creating new accounts on “X”, they were automatically shown thousands of posts.
Most of them were political in nature.
- 60% fell into the “right-wing” category
- 32% into the “left-wing” category
- Only 6% were “neutral”
Left-leaning users saw nearly the same number of “left-wing” and “right-wing” posts, even though they followed only “left-wing” accounts.
In contrast, right-leaning users who followed only “right-wing” accounts saw just 14% “left-wing” posts.
“Neutral” users were automatically shown twice as many “right-wing” posts as “left-wing” ones.
Almost none of the political posts on are politically neutral. Most represent “right-wing” ideas.
Musk systematically spreads lies, disinformation, and hate—and grows fabulously rich from it. He pays hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump, MAGA, Germany’s AfD, Britain’s Reform UK, funded lawyers for Tommy Robinson, and I could go on.
Speaking for myself: anyone who has an account on “X” is not only contributing to Musk’s astronomically growing wealth and unchecked power—but also enabling the creeping spread of fascism.
